Jacob Milliman's Journey with ABR

2011 Stanhope High School graduate, Jacob Milliman, emerged onto the ABR scene in 2009 at a local ABR ID Camp, which eventually landed him an invitation into the USSSA All-American Games. Following his performance at the USSSA All-American Games, the 6’5”, 235lb RHP from Deatsville, Alabama, was awarded USSSA All-American Honors and named to the 2010 USSSA National Team.

As part of the 2010 USSSA National Team, Milliman traveled to Osaka Japan where he describes his experience as “fantastic and life changing.” Strongly living by his “I had to just rep for the US” attitude, Milliman proved he can not only compete but also succeed on the international level. He was dominant from the mound and at the plate, which eventually landed him a spot on the 2011 USSSA National Team who competed in Prague, Czech Republic in the prestigious “Prague Baseball Week.”

Milliman was the game one starter in the Prague Baseball Week Tournament where he got the win against A.I.S.T, the eventual tournament champions. Yet, possibly the highlight of his time in Prague would be when he came in with the bases load and no outs against the French National Team.

“I was thinking I got to do my job, I had to not let anyone score. I was definitely still nervous,” explains Milliman. Needless to say, whatever he did worked. He continued to strike-out the side blowing fastballs by the heart of the lineup.

This consistency is what has helped catapult Milliman to the next level since ABR first saw him perform at the local 2009 ID Camp.  He has since been named a 2009 USSSA All-American, USSSA World Championship standout (2009, 2010), and a two-time USSSA National Team Member (2010, 2011).

Due to all of his success on the USSSA National Teams and his former travel teams (Upper Deck Cougars and Bama Bombers), Milliman was no stranger to some of the top college programs. After turning down offers from some of the top programs, Milliman committed to Pensacola State Community College. Although not an easy decision, he chose this top Junior program so that he can pursue the 2012 draft and log innings that may have otherwise been lost out on at a larger program.

The exposure Milliman gained through his ABR journey really helped put him on the radar.

He urges other young prospects to follow a similar road he traveled if given the opportunity. “It was a life changing experience…. It is also a great way to get your name out there.”

Milliman currently sits 88-91 tops out at 93. With his hard work and attitude he has what it takes to continue to stride past all other athletes. In three years, Milliman hopes to play professional baseball. For someone like him, it is not such a lofty dream. Good luck to Jacob with the remainder of the season and be prepared to hear more about this spotlight player. It is apparent that the future is bright for this modest star.
