With the
summer now in full swing ABR has some updated information on former USSSA
Stars.
Joe
Filomeno has come out of offensive retirement this summer where he will
be taking some cuts for Wareham Gatemen. He is 0-1 in the box and will look to
get himself ready for some time at first base this fall for Louisville. The
power lefty who has been up to 97 mph this year was a 2010 National Team
Member. He is posting a 2.35 era in 8 innings pitched in the powerhouse Cape
Cod Baseball League.
2010 USSSA National Team Member Jake Junis is posting a 0.00 era in
five innings after his first start with the Burlington Royals in the Royals
Rookie ball team.
USSSA World Championships standout Dan Vogelbach is tearing it up for
the Cubs Rookie team AZL Cubs. He’s hitting a .400 clip through his first few
games with 3 doubles.
USSSA World Championship stand out Dante Bichette is hitting a modest
.265 for his Charleston Rivercats squad (long season A). Bichette has accrued
one home run and 11 doubles in a league where the average player is generally
much older than his 19 years of age.
Wyatt Mathisen is hitting .556 through 5 games with the GCL
Pirates. Mathisen traveled to Prague with the USSSA National Team last year and was a
second rounder in the 2012 draft.
Tyler Palmer has signed with Middle Georgia CC for his sophomore
year after his freak accident last summer. Palmer who had a big first year back
as a baseball player hit just under .400 this year for the nationally ranked
Illinois juco Oakton CC. Palmer broke the school record for stolen bases and
hit five homeruns in the spring.
Anthony Alford is hitting .167 through five games for the class
A Lansing Lugnuts.
2009 USSSA All- American, Jesse Winke, is hitting .261 through six
games with the Billings Mustangs (Reds Rookie). In his first professional game
he went 1-4.
USSSA World Championship standout Mason Hope has a 2.25 for the
marlins rookie team Burlington Hammers. This is Hope’s second year of
professional baseball, last year he posted a 2-0 record with a 3.29 era.
Catcher Tyler Marlette is hitting .313 for the Pulaski Mariners
in the Appalachian League. The 2011 draft hit .156 in his short first year.
