USSSA HS Varsity National Team - Day 3 Recap

Below is the Game 1 Recap:

USSSA vs Czech Republic 18u National Team

Starting Pitcher: Joseph Camacho
Winning Pitcher: Joseph Camacho

Team USSSA got off to a good start at the 31st annual Prague Baseball Week with a 6 -2 win over the hometown 18u Czech Republic National Team. USSSA's pitching was dominant from the start being led by El Paso Native Joseph Camacho. Camacho pitched five innings of two run baseball, one of which being earned. Camacho also tallied nine strikeouts.

"Camacho had tremendous command today and was able to fill the strike zone with three pitches. He consistently kept the Czech hitters off balanced." - USSSA HS Varsity National Team Coach DJ Wabick

Emilio Gonzales and Alx Galik were able to continue on the pace Camacho set with a combined four innings of shutout relief. Gonzales struck out five batter in two innings while Galik struck out two.

The USSSA offense got off to a slow start, but still managed to produce six runs. Both Donnie Dewees and Brandon Cordell scored two runs apiece, while Matt Godinsky and Connor Crile both had an RBI to pace the USSSA offense.

The play of the day came in the bottom half of the ninth inning with a runner on third base. The Czech hitter popped a ball foul which brought multiple USSSA defenders to come crashing in. Catcher Jake Turley caught the ball in foul territory for the second out of the inning and quickly realized that nobody was covering home. With the runner from third racing towards the plate to score, Turley sprinted forward and dove head first to tag out the sliding runner just before reaching the plate. With the play, Turley not only got the last two outs of the inning, but secured the 6-2 win for USSSA.

USSSA's next game will be tomorrow at 11 am central time against the Czech Republic Senior Naional Team.
