The second ABR Scout Day was held on July 29th for the 15u and 16u divisions prior to the start of the USSSA World Championships. With 140 talented individuals, the event was a huge success.
Numerous scouts and coaches were on the field evaluating each player on an individual basis, as well as a few additional scouts who popped in to watch the day’s activities.
The players at the event did not disappoint. Jake Walters and Christian Abad both had an event high fastball registering at 88. Kyle Morton, while bumping a modest 85, impressed with his command and off speed.
The bats were also on full display in multiple aspects. Josh Guia showed his ability to drive the ball hard to all fields consistently while switch hitting Andy Toelken showed flashes of some serious pop to the power allies. Quirino Esquivel and Kevin Jones also had big days at the plate with their strong wrists and lighting hands.
Wesley Weeks had a tremendous event after running a 6.66 60 and hitting 89 from the outfield. Quirino Esquival had one of the top infield velocities at 84. Andy Toelken raised his stock further with his soft hands, quick feet, and accurate throws in the infield.
Sunday’s 60 times were impressive yet again with many players running a sub seven. Kyle Goddard ran an incredible 6.52. Edwin Munez proved he was the fastest catcher at the event with his 6.93 run.
Austin Wilson put on a display from behind the dish. Scouts raved over his arm, deemed both strong and accurate. He had an event best 1.98 pop time. Ramon Ramos also impressed with his nearly 2.00 time.
After all was said and done ABR scouting director Brian Wabick was very pleased with the players he saw. “With the All-American Games coming up here it is nice to be able to take a look at such a large group of talented kids. I definitely saw some guys that I want to invite to the AAG’s and who could possibly make a run at the National Team.”
Thank you to all the families who came out on the beautiful day in Kissimmee and thank you to Osceola Sports Complex for being so accommodating yet again.
