Jr. All-State Games Recap

Junior All-State Games Re-cap

“In only its second year the ABR/USSSA Junior All-State Games is already the premier showcase event in the Midwest for players ages 9 thru 13” stated Event Coordinator Mike Moyzis. We saw some outstanding play throughout the weekend from all the teams.  Fishers HSE Youth Baseball Association we’re tremendous hosts their facility is outstanding. Our attendance was fantastic attracting people from all over the Midwest to come see the best players compete and they certainly weren’t disappointed!

You couldn’t ask for more excitement and drama Sunday at Billericay Park in Fisher’s IN. This event featured extra- inning ballgames, see-saw battles and walk-offs throughout this three-day showcase event. Showcasing over three hundred of the best players from throughout the Midwest we had plenty of great plays, awesome pitching performances and big hits.

In the nine-year old championship round Team Southern Illinois came back out of the loser’s bracket and lost a tough game to Northern Illinois in the semi-finals. The Southern Illinois 9U team had a great team effort and fought hard all weekend some outstanding performances throughout the tournament were turned in by Mitchell Haake, Matt Hendricks, and Grant Thoroman.

The championship game between Team Northern Illinois and Team Indiana was an outstanding game with many lead changes. Northern Illinois won a thriller in extra innings 10-8. Garrett Harker, Alex Richter, and Andrew Neff had an outstanding tournament for Team Indiana. The champion Team Northern Illinois had many heroes throughout the weekend and lead by Vytas Valincius, Jack Crowder, and Harold Cooper.

The ten year-old division was full on drama with team Southern Illinois winning this thriller in extra innings 12-11. Team Southern Illinois scored ten runs in the 7th to come back and take the lead but Texas battled back with one of their own in the 7th to tie it at ten. Team Southern Illinois scored two in the eighth to take a 12-10 lead but Texas notched a run in the bottom of the eight and had men in scoring position when Team Southern Illinois got the final out to win.

There were many outstanding performances by all the players on these two teams. Standout players for Team Texas were Caeden Trinkle, Logan Point, and Kaeden Teafatiller. Team Southern Illinois Drew Keller, Cole Jones, and Cooper Simmonds played important roles in winning the championship for Team Southern Illinois.  This was a classic championship game which will be remembered forever by all of the kids and their parents.

In the 11year old division we had another outstanding game with Team Michigan winning a 6-5 walk-off thriller over Team Indiana. Team Michigan had some great play by many players including Jake Englekes, Ben Highman, Devin Mahanney, and Lanye Malczewski.  This game was another classic contest, which ended in dramatic fashion.

In the championship game Team Southern Illinois took and early lead and dominated Northern Illinois winning 13-1. Team Southern Illinois had many outstanding performances throughout the weekend lead by Kory Price, Charlie Mangerii, and Jimmy Staab.

Capping this weekend’s event was another classic baseball game featuring two great 13 year old teams. This game featured eight lead changes with many big plays! In the end it was Team Michigan winning this classic in extra innings on yet another walk-off homerun in the bottom of the eight. Team Northern Illinois battled back from a number of deficits throughout the game, tying it in the top of the 7th on a two run homerun 14-14. But Team Michigan wouldn’t be denied the championship and ended this dramatic game with a walk-off homerun to win. This was another great game showcasing many outstanding thirteen year old players.
